Home listening task unit 3 Image and Appearance (listening)

Original video:

Summary:

Well, the video presents us with Cameron Russell, an expert model who has been working for 10 years. She tells us that she went through a lot to get where she was and that during that time she noticed many things, among them how the world has become superficial and empty, I’m talking about how society has become more and more schematic in recent years where dressing well or looking good is a measure of acceptance on social networks, I’m talking about how within the modeling industry there is a large number of models but among them only 4% were not white, making it clear that the talent scouts supported by society is still so “racist” or discriminatory. He also talks about the “advantages and disadvantages” of being a model, making it clear that modeling is not good for the model as a whole and for the society that is evolving over time.

My opinion:

Well, in general I liked very much what Cameron said, because it is very revealing what she said, she mentioned a lot of issues such as discrimination, problems of racism in society, she mentioned how because of fashion women during adolescence are self-conscious about their bodies because they can not achieve the standards of beauty that can be seen in magazines, television, movies and music videos. In general everything she said I found very accurate as it is true that today’s society is governed by social networks and physical condition or how you may be perceived by others through the screen of your mobile phone or in people. In my opinion I find that it is good that you should maintain a good state of health through the superficial and be able to learn to love yourself but what I do not like is that they take it to the extreme making it extremely necessary that you have to show a facet of yourself that is not necessarily your own, that is only being taken by the hand of the society that has been created during these last years.

Link of the podcast.

Summary:

Well, this week the professor left us with the task of analyzing a fragment of a podcast regarding obesity, the video talks about how people with obesity have to spend their day to day, it also mentions some stereotypes of which people with obesity suffer during their day to day life in social networks or in person, as it is well known the obesity rate has been growing for the last 20 years, due to high calories and sugars in the most popular foods in recent times. They also talk about how there are some events that help these people who suffer from obesity to take part.La obesidad: la mortal enfermedad del mundo rico - AS.com

In my personal opinion I believe that people (including myself) should be a little more committed to their body, I don’t say this to “love oneself” but rather to not create health problems such as obesity. Obesity is more than a physical state, it is a disease, a disorder, so I feel that it should be treated as soon as possible or at least not to make the situation worse.

My Listening Task 1°

World’s Most Unequal Countries

Personal Reflection:

Well the first thing that caught my attention was the style of the video, because they used a top format, therefore they left many countries out and you can highlight some countries above others giving useful and concrete information, when I continued watching the video I was impressed by the fact that Chile was in the 7th place leaving in evidence that it is nothing a mystery that here in Chile things are bad in that area, This video is useful for some people to “open their eyes” to the hard reality, it is very common that some people from other countries see Chile as a great country to start over (and I don’t deny it) but this video, like many others, informs these people to look for and get more information, since changing country is a very important decision.
